Plant With Willow

iOS Application Redesign
Design Goals
Plant with Willow is a plant care Start Up based out of Australia for keeping houseplants alive. After raising funds through their Kickstarter campaign, they collaborated with me for redesigning their application. The client had an exhaustive list of features they needed in the new version of the application which included access to a plant encyclopedia, an easy to use flow for pairing their devices (placed inside the pot) with the app.
Who’s the user ?

Some Predesign Exercises
As the co-founders James and Jared had already done a very good job validating their first draft, the brief was simple. I had to figure out a way to include all the new features. The most important user flow that had to be figured out was pairing new devices. Why? Because it was a hub and spoke model of devices connected to a common hub. Hence your app had to be paired with the hub as well as the devices in your pot. Sounds too much? Not if you want to save your plants from dying but you have a really busy schedule. This application will let you know when your plant is thirty or even if it needs sunlight soon.

Wireframes
I started on wireframing once the user flows were done. We agreed to test our user flows at lofi stage itself. So, as soon as I created my wireframes I made a design prototype for with it. The Goal was to validate my user flows, assumptions and weed out any usability flaws at this stage itself. If you scroll down, you will find a video of the lofi prototype created for this application.

Branding and Typography

It wouldn’t be a plant care app if it wasn’t green. I used shades of green to create gradients, along with grey, white and black. To keep it light, I used Poppins as font. When I look back, I see that I used a lot Gestalt’s Principles like white spacing, grouping similar elements in this application.
Final Designs
Here is a before and after of the redesign. You can scroll down to see a video of prototype as well.
