Design Goals

Squegg is a Grip Strength training device. There are two supporting applications; one for at home patients who are recovering from a hand injury and second is for Grip Training therapists at the clinic. Both the applications required completely different design language, one playful and the other professional. Over the span of 6 months, I worked on making Grip Strength Assessment (the most important user flow for both users) simple and easy to use along with designing other screens

Who’s the user ?

Some Predesign Exercises

To make the applications accessible as a lot of elderly population, I kept the accessibility criteria for vision impairments and color blindness both. I did contrast testing to ensure the colors compatible with the required standards. In collaboration with the team, we did user interviews with Grip training therapists, crazy 8’s to draw our visions and mapped out user flows for important functions of the application.

Wireframes

The next step was creating wireframes. I started with lofi wireframes, focusing on form and function at this stage. After a couple of review and feedbacks rounds, we all agreed to create lofi prototypes and test our assumptions about the users.

Branding and Typography

For Core App, the design language was light and fresh. Using bright orange as an accent color gave the application a vibrant look and feel. To keep both the applications cohesive, I chose to use same fonts, SF Pro for its simplicity. Accessibility was a major concern and driving factor for the design choices

For Pro app, the brief was completely different. During User research, it was discovered that our users were not very tech savvy and hence the application was given a simple and professional look. It was also important to guide the users through out the application which was achieved by minimalistic use of colors through out the application.

Final Designs

Here are the final screens for both the app.
